Anubhava Science Sessions (April 6th - 10th 2009)

Children in the age group 5-7 yrs were thrilled with concepts of air and the related magic experiments to realise the concepts. It was a pleasure to watch children raising their eye brows waiting to listen to the explanation wondering why things happened what they observed. Children used to just wait to grab the materials to experience themselves and perform the experiments on their own.

It was a great sight to watch children in the age group 8-12 yrs running to choose the experiments and each one busy doing experiments what they choose. Children were learning through discussion, asking questions, doing experiments, working on questions and hints... Few children were working on experiments on air, some children on electricity, some others on light, few on water etc... Everyday they used to be almost prepared to choose the experiment being motivated by watching others doing the same in earlier sessions. We enjoyed every moment with children helping them to think why, what, how and seeing them satisfied when they figure it out or understand. Click on the image to view more photos ...

Science Toys and Activities (April 13th - 17th 2009)

Children had great fun experiencing applications of various science concepts by making simple toys and doing some simple activities Activities were spread across various topics including air movement through flying fish, helicopter paper designs, air pressure through toy car , turbine working using cola cans, pull back cars using soap boxes, geo disc structures using straws, structures and their weight distribution using egg shells, post cards etc, wrist watch without battery working using lemon, LED glowing using potato, checking with other vegetables, aerobic composting of kitchen waste using kambha (daily dump product), etc Click on the image to view more photos ...

Energy efficiency through games (April 24th 2009)

It just took few seconds to see children in action scratching their head trying to unscramble the words to identify the right poster. Children were eager to answer their questions and running to find an other clue. It was wonderful to see children reading the content on different posters based on their clues for 1 and half hour without getting deviated and trying to gather information to grab their treasure. Finally each one got their treasure and were thrilled to see the fan working in the sun light using solar panel ... Click on the image to view more photos ...

Weather Station - 1 (April 25th 2009)

Children in the age group 5-7 learnt how to use compass to mark the directions at different places, marked the directions on the terrace and observed the cloud movement that helps to forecast the weather using mirror. Learnt the concept of temperature and noted the difference in temperature readings of ice, boiling water, room temperature, body temperature etc Water cycle was discussed and an experiment was demonstrated to illustrate the concept of raining.

Children in the age group 8-12 yrs were given the thermometers to check the temperature under sun light, shade, in soil, below leaf etc. Children were helped to make anemometer to measure the wind speed followed by the discussion, using compass and mirror noting the directions and observation of could movement on the terrace followed by discussion, build a wind vane to determine the wind direction etc. Worksheets were given to further explore on these topics in the process of noting down the readings. Climate Change (April 27th and 28th 2009)

Facilitator helped children to become aware of the science concepts in Simple aquarium dealing different elements of aquarium including pebbles, filter, air pump, fish, snail, aquatic plants etc leading to ecosystem and for sure developed more interest in children towards fish and its environment.

Children got the exposure to various fundamental concepts behind global warming, green house effect etc using simple terminologies. Introduced the concept of carbon sequestration and explained the presence of carbon in the atmosphere, demonstrated its conversion to charcoal and its uses. Demonstrated the generation of ash, smoke, charcoal and their constituents. Discusson on using charcoal as a fertiliser to plants followed by children sowing methi seeds using charcoal as a fertiliser. Helped children to make briquettes by themselves using waste papers and talked about possible uses of them. Click on the image to view more photos ...

Birth of Universe and Us (May 4th-8th 2009)

Facilitator narrated one of the stories of the Birth of Universe. The stories were made more interesting and absorbing through some relevant activities, experiments, art and craft work, making models. Big bang theory was narrated followed by the formation of earth, oceans, oxygen in the atmosphere, animal life starting from protozoa, plant life starting from blue green algae through era's.
